Jammu is called the city of temples. It is the perfect destination for pleasant atmosphere. The city is located on the foot hills of the great Himalayas. The city is believed to be founded by Raja Jamboolochan in the 14th century BC. The city has a lot of places that attract the tourists like Bahu Fort, Dogra Art museum, Mubarak Mandi, Raghunath temple etc.

Places To visit in Jammu

1. Patnitop:-

Patnitop is located in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir. The place is known for its beautiful locations. It can be a heavenly experience if you visit the place in summers. It is one of the main tourist location in the state. The hill station offers a lot of adventure sports too like skiing etc. The place Madhotop is a region is located near the place and is covered with thick sheets of snow in the winter season. You can also visit Sanasar, which is few kilometers away from Patnitop. Golf courses are present in this region. Patnitop is ideal for trekking.

2. Bahu Fort and Gardens:-

This is located 5 Kms away from the centre of the city. It is located on the left bank of the river Tawi. It is believed to be constructed over 3,000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan. Inside the fort, there is a temple dedicated to goddess Kali. A very large garden known as Bagh-e-Bahu has been developed inside the Bahu fort.

3.Mansar Lake:-

The lake is located 62 Kms from the Jammu city. Here you can also enjoy the boating facility. Every year around the Baisakhi season, a festival is organized by the government of the state to promote tourism.

1. Raghunath Temple:-

This is one of the most famous temples of the city. It is situated in the middle of the city. The temple is surrounded by umpteen other temples. This temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. The construction of the temple was initiated by Maharaja Gulab Singh and was finally completed by his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh in the year 1860 A.D.  People from various parts of the country visit this temple as it is one of the most significant temple in the state.

2. Peer Khoh:-

It is a shrine in the form of a cave located at a distance of 3.5 kms from the main city. There is a naturally and mysteriously formed Shiva linga in the cave. This shrine is very famous among the people of the state and from far across the country.

3. Aquarium Bagh-I-Bahu:-

This is India’s largest underground aquarium. From the day it has been opened, it attracts large number of tourists. This aquarium is largely popular amongst students and the tourists giving them a glimpse of the aquatic world. In the aquarium around 400 different varieties of marine creatures are put on display.

By Air:-

The Jammu city has its own airport. Almost all the major airlines like Jet Airways have their flights scheduled to Jammu on regular basis.

By Road:-

The road network of the state is very good. It connects it to all the major cities of the country like Delhi, Amritsar, Haryana etc.

By Train:-

The main railway station of the city is located in the Jammu city itself. It is called the Jammu Tawi station. It is connected to almost all the major cities of the country.
